When long-term decay is neglected, it can progress to infecting the nervous organ of the tooth called the pulp. Pulpitis, or inflammation of the dental nerve will then cause pain that can be very intense and lead to what is commonly called "toothache".
It is by these symptoms that endodontic treatment is indicated; under local anesthesia, it consists of devitalizing the tooth (= removal of the tooth's own nerve) in order to remove any symptoms, disinfect the canal (s) of the tooth (anatomical place occupied by the old nerve), and seal the latter (s) using a biocompatible and waterproof material in order to avoid subsequent re-contamination.
Then follows a dental reconstruction in the air of a composite resin, or a ceramic / composite part made by a dental laboratory.
All our treatments are carried out using surgical loupes, thus allowing precision work, thus increasing the prognosis of the treatments.
The second indication for amalgam replacement is aesthetic; If your amalgams are visible when you smile and you want a more aesthetic smile, our practitioners of the Clinique Dentaire de Meyrin can then change these restorations with composite resin.
